INFORMATION & DOCUMENTATION CENTER
The International Federation of Library Association's (IFLA) Manifesto states: "The school library provides information and ideas that are fundamental to functioning successfully in today's information and knowledge-based society. The school library equips students with lifelong learning skills and develops the imagination, enabling them to live as responsible citizens" (2008). Following the above statement, CCJ gives considerable attention to the equipping, furnishing, and organization of the CDI, or Center of Documentation and Information, and the libraries. In addition to the CDI, CCJ houses three libraries that form perfect and stimulating reading, research, and learning environments for our pupils. Managed by professional librarians, our CDI and libraries include laptops for our students’ use/multimedia resources, reading corners for students depending on age, magazines, and thousands of books of different types and genres (reference books, encyclopedias, fiction and nonfiction, scientific books, etc.) and in three languages- English, Arabic, and French. Believing in the power of libraries in developing well-informed students, promoting student enthusiasm and motivation, developing love for reading and research, and encouraging responsibility and problem solving, we specify reading hours and sessions for our students to enjoy the variety of books and resources we have. At the same time, our CDI and libraries are open during the school day for students and teachers who are eager to conduct research or read during recess and lunch break. Our students can also loan books to read at home over a period of two or three weeks, depending on the type of book, to be returned intact and by the date specified by the librarian Our library rules are posted at the entrance of each library for all students to abide by. |
